United: Pursuing Jesus Together

Branding Design for Campus Ministries at Southern Adventist University

United: Pursuing Jesus Together was the theme of the 2020–2021 academic year for the Campus Ministries department at Southern Adventist University. As the creative content director, I led the development of the visual identity and overall branding experience for this theme.

Inspiration Behind the Logo

During the brainstorming phase, I set out to create an abstract, gender-neutral logo that visually supported the year’s theme: Pursuing Jesus Together. I wanted something simple yet meaningful—an abstract design that represents the spiritual journey.

The logo is composed of three rectangles, each symbolizing a stage of that journey:

  • Top rectangle – We are messy and tangled in sin.

  • Middle rectangle – Jesus steps in and brings order and clarity.

  • Bottom rectangle – We are made whole and complete in Him.

This shirt features the logo on an asphalt-colored tee, chosen not only for contrast—but for meaning. The dark fabric represents the weight of sin, struggle, or seasons of uncertainty, while the gold element shines as a symbol of redemption and hope. It marks the most radiant stage of our spiritual journey—when we are no longer defined by who we were, but by who Christ has transformed us to be.

Unity begins with a shared direction. On the back of the shirt, that direction is made clear: unity in Christ. This was the heart of the 2020–2021 theme, based on John 17:23—a call to be made whole through Him and to reflect His love to the world.

"I in them and You in Me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.” — John 17:23 (NIV)

The design incorporates a partial logo that speaks to this transformation—a symbol of the ongoing process of becoming united with Christ and with one another.

As a variation, this design was also printed on a white tee to create a clean, minimal aesthetic. Beyond style, the white fabric carries symbolic meaning—representing purity, renewal, and the redemptive work of Christ.

The simplicity of the design draws attention to the message itself—quiet, but bold. It’s the kind of piece that sparks curiosity and opens the door for meaningful conversation, offering a chance to share personal testimony when the moment arises.

The back design continues the story—pairing Scripture with intentional symbolism. Set against a white backdrop, the message feels both grounded and hopeful. The verse from John 17:23 speaks to the heart of the year’s theme: unity in Christ.

“I in them and You in Me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.”

Positioned above the verse, the partial logo reinforces the idea of spiritual alignment—a visual cue that unity with Christ is both a process and a promise. The overall design invites reflection not just on who we are, but who we’re becoming.
