If I Could Tell You Anything,
I would tell you that I’m sorry.
I never meant to ruin what we worked so hard to build.
I wish my backbone was strong enough to carry
the weight of my fears, but
I crumbled beneath the weight of loving you.
Each time you spoke of forever,
I cringed within myself—
because I know too well
that these spring feelings will soon wither into winter.
I fear that your eyes will grow tired of my beauty—
that you will no longer remember the reasons why you chose me.
I’m afraid that your heart will soon grow cold for me
and that I will no longer have the power to give it warmth.
I’m afraid that your I love you’s will become empty
and instead of saying it out of love, you’ll recite it out of routine.
I’m afraid to let myself fall into your arms—
just in case you ever regret catching me.
